This particular sculpture is thought to be a Roman copy of an original Greek bronze sculpture, depicting a dancing faun.
The Romans are often described as copycats of Greek style, however the precision and detail with which they understood anatomy is absolutely unique to the era
Fauns (or goat men, as the Greeks called them in Satyr) were half men with the legs & tail of a goat. Their image is borrowed from the god Pan, and they were actually considered symbols of peace and fertility
I’ve always been drawn to how the ancients depicted human anatomy (especially in mythological creatures). A perfect counterpart to the Venus line art print, this design is available in grey, blue and pink.
